There is something very special about the PNG experience that is unique and can only be shared with others who have enjoyed the wonderful life as well. It is a bond that for many people is treasured and never forgotten!
As a result there have been many reunions over the years. All of the events have been extremely popular, some targeting specific groups of people such as the fantastic Lae Markham Reunions organised by Wendy Clarke and Brian Zavattaro in Brisbane, the Highlands Reunion in Brisbane and Byron Bay and the Salamaua mob who gathered on North Stradbroke to relive those fires on the beach!
The aim of these gatherings has been to get together with old wantoks and to celebrate the great times that we all enjoyed, however the unexpected spin-offs have been heart-warming, including raising funds for charities and “giving something back” to PNG, some great business deals and quite a few renewed love affairs!
As many of you reading this will know, there has been a PNG Reunion held on the Gold Coast every second year since 1994, initiated by Paul Bolger, Brian Costello, Bernie Murray and their committee. In 2007 they handed over to some `younger folk' who were pikininis during their time in PNG. Robyn Horley (President), Kelly Horley (Treasurer), Greg Pike (Secretary), Wendy Stockden-Brock (Planning) form the Executive, and have been supported along the way by Leanne St George, Cath Porter, Emilie Delacruz, Robbo Robertson and Jenni Purdy (so far)!
There are always openings for anyone who wants to be involved and lend a hand (and who would enjoy the fun!!!)
